Rangitoto Camping
Much like Hawaii’s, New Zealand’s natural beauty stems from a surprisingly dangerous source. Many of the islands in New Zealand are long-dormant volcanoes. Volcanic soil is incredibly rich in minerals, allowing all sorts of gorgeous plants to grow.
Rangitoto is an astoundingly beautiful island that’s located near Auckland. As you might have guessed, it’s also a dormant volcano. Visitors don’t have to worry about eruptions or earthquakes. Instead, they can set up camp and drink in the scenery.
Vector Wero Whitewater Park

This gigantic structure is one of the tallest buildings in the entire world. The view from the Sky Tower’s observation deck is worth the lengthy trip. So is the opportunity to participate in the SkyWalk and SkyJump activities.
Piha Beach
A day at the beach is well spent, regardless of which hemisphere you’re in. The options are almost limitless; you can host a bonfire at night, blitz through a morning jog, or catch a tan during the day.
About 40 kilometers to the west, you’ll find Piha – Auckland’s most popular beach. Whether traveling solo or having the whole family with you, Piha Beach is a must-see venue. It’s also a fantastic surfing spot.
Snowplanet
Most photos of Auckland feature clear skies and grassy fields. That’s because snowfall is incredibly rare in Auckland. Entire decades will pass, and no snowflake will drift from the sky. Snowboarders aren’t completely compromised – they have to visit Snowplanet.
This indoor ski slope is a favorite for winter sports fans. It’s located in Silverdale, one of Auckland’s neighboring cities, but it is easily worth the trip. Guests will have plenty of room to shred, and slopes are separated based on a boarder’s experience.
Auckland Sealife Aquarium
New Zealand is the home of some pretty amazing animals. Auckland, in particular, is famous for the large groups of Kiwis that live in the area – the birds, we mean. The number of fascinating sea creatures that call Auckland home is also staggering.
If you want to meet these aquatic critters face to fin, the Auckland Sealife Aquarium is your best bet. Sharks, penguins, and octopi call this aquarium home. Add in interactive experiences, and it’s no wonder why Auckland Sealife is so popular.
Skydiving
The wind flowing through your hair, the Earth spreading out in front of you, the thrill of soaring through the clouds – this is what Skydive Auckland is all about. The more scenic the area you’re skydiving in, the better.
We’ve spent plenty of time gushing about Auckland’s beauty. At this point, we think you should go skydiving and experience it for yourself. Don’t get us wrong, bike and jet boat tours are also great options. But there’s something special about seeing the city from a bird’s eye view.
Ziplining
Okay, maybe we didn’t hook you up with our sales pitch for skydiving. You’ve made up your mind, and you’re not jumping out of anyone’s airplane anytime soon. Still, you’d love to see Auckland from a different perspective.
Ziplining might be just the thing you’re looking for. In our experience, the EcoZip Adventure on Waiheke Island is worth the trip.
