Each of the establishments visited had been assessed using an expert crew from MCT’s Tourism Division, which, thus far, has already assessed ninety-eight of 280 properties throughout the Solomon Islands. The Minimum Standards group additionally spends a great time consulting with folks who wish to perform accommodation, advising them on how the Minimum Standards may be used as a guideline while constructing and promoting their businesses.
MCT Permanent Secretary Andrew Nihopara said he has become happy with his group, which has visited providers and supported them with the know-how of how to enhance offerings and facilities to better meet visitor expectations. “Accommodation providers are vital to assisting the Solomon Islands to entice travelers, create jobs, and generate profits. This is essential now, greater than ever, with tourism and ecotourism stepping up to fill the distance left by the declining logging enterprise,” he said.
As part of the Minimum Standards procedure, MCT staff verify institutions based on the services the establishment wants to provide. Establishments can select to be assessed as a Hotel, Resort, Motel, Budget Accommodation, Tourist Bungalow, Ecolodge, Serviced Apartment, or Homestay. For all accommodation providers, the requirements cowl essential regions, inclusive of Guest Rooms and Bathrooms; Emergency, Safety, and Security; Legal requirements; Business Operations; Front Office and Lobby; Kitchen, Restaurant, and Bar; Guest Services; Building, Grounds and Maintenance; and Environmental Management.
The Minimum Standards Program is one of several key packages currently being performed by MCT, supported by using Australian Government initiative ‘Strong Bisnis’, the Enhanced Integrated Framework Program (EIF), and the Australian Volunteers International application. The Standards assist in promoting and inspiring tourism in the Solomon Islands with the aid of formalizing accommodation classes and ensuring that lodging providers shape their classes properly.
By formalizing categories and aligning them with the world-recognized standards, the Solomon Islands can higher market awareness and promote its lodging to the foreign market and increase consideration with travelers and tour dealers before they make bookings.
